Social adaptation of young employees of oil and gas companies: a sociological analysis

Abstract

The article deals with the specific features and current state of the social adaptation process among young workers in oil and gas companies. The oil and gas industry has special working conditions, great responsibility, complex technological processes, and a corporate culture. All of the above makes special demands on young specialists. As the economy and labor market are changing rapidly, and competition for highly great responsibility, complex technological processes, and a corporate culture. As the economy and labor market are changing rapidly, and competition for highly the successful adaptation of new hires has become particularly important. The study draws on the results of the authors' sociological survey conducted among young workers of oil and gas companies between January and March 2026. The total number of respondents was 300. The authors of this article examine the demand for social adaptation programs among young employees in oil and gas companies, identify the specific features of social adaptation for new workers in the industry, and determine the relevance of various adaptation components and technologies for young specialists. Social adaptation in the oil and gas industry includes, on the one hand, integration into the work collective and acceptance of corporate norms (52.3%), and, on the other hand, professional development and mastery of job responsibilities (39.9%). The researchers found a high demand for mentoring (36.6% of respondents consider that it is an important element). The study defined that, despite the technological development of the oil and gas industry, interpersonal relations, support, and the transfer of tacit knowledge remain the foundation of successful social adaptation for young specialists.
